Cooperation

Tell a person to do something and wait to see if they will do it. 1 out
of 10 may do it. You will have to force the other 9.
Ask a person to do something and wait to see if they will do it. 3 out
of 10 may do it. You will have to force the other 7.
OR,
Ask a person about their job, and listen to them.
Ask a person if there might be a better way, and listen to them some
more. Ask some more simple questions like why, what, where, when, who,
how.
Ask a person if there is anything they need from you to support them in
implementing the improvement.
Ask them to write it up on a quick and easy kaizen form so that:
* It is clear that they have identified the problem.
* They have thought through a good (not perfect) improvement.
* You have something to reference in coaching them for further
improvements.
* The person gets the proper credit due for the well thought out
improvement.
Try this a couple dozen times. Then, 9 out of 10 will “force” you to
support them in making improvements as they support your quick and easy
kaizen program. Are you prepared to be “forced” into that level of
servitude? To do this right, servitude to your employees and a
process-centric coaching mindset from all people in management is
required.
